Working Processes: Creating the Game - Colouring in and adding tint

I went through the different alternatives I could use in order to colour in my piece.

I've decided to not go with any of those options but instead have taken a different route which I believe works best. This technique may be a technique I will proceed to use later in life too.

Instead of putting alpha on the colour of the items, or removing the lines, I've decided to instead colour the items in with a solid colour and give the lines an alpha. The alpha percentage I have chosen to apply to the whole room is 25%.

By having lines with 25% alpha, meaning that they are only 25% visible. Since the lines are also a black apha it means that the lines will be the same colour as the object but slightly darker. This would be perfect!

As for the colours itself, I have chosen to go for pastel colours. These colours aren't too strong and therefore will not look as though the game is made for infants (which would be the case if I went with primary colours only).

Since my game is also set at night, very little light will be in the room. In order to achieve a night effect, I have also added a tint to go above the Flash file.

To do this tint, I did not use the tint feature but instead used the advanced featured and played around with the settings. I was most satisfied with the following.
  • 47% alpha
  • 0% red
  • 0% green
  • 13% blue x B + 22
I believe this created a very good effect which left the piece looking as though it was at night. Here is the final result:
